We are looking for Volunteers here at Acaria Hospice. The goal is to link each volunteer with each or even several patients to build an ongoing relationship.

Job Responsibilities For Volunteer:

  1. Serves the patient and family/caregiver under guidance of Volunteer Coordinator and Case Manager or as a part of the administrative team.
  2. The volunteer may do homemaker chores, run errands, and provide respite care as well.
  3. Documents with maintaining confidentiality.
  4. Provides availability on a regular basis and/or keeping with the patient and family/caregiver needs.
  5. Participates in volunteer support groups and/or educational inservices.
  6. Maintains open communication and reports regularly to the Volunteer Coordinator
  7. Participates in interdisciplinary group meetings, as appropriate.

Qualifications

  1. Mature individual, supportive of the hospice concept, comfortable with his/her own spirituality and willing to serve others in a volunteer capacity.
  2. Successful completion of the hospice’s volunteer training and orientation program.
  3. Ability to work within the interdisciplinary group.
  4. If making home visits, must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state/or organization requirements and is in good working order.

We are a Hospice company with a large emphasis on our volunteering service. We understand that patients/family are in need of volunteers and greatly appreciate them. We strive to provide honest and reliable services to our patients. The patient is most vulnerable during their time of sickness and end of life and so therefore, we assist patient's and their family with their final stage of life. We treat every single patient is the most important patient!

Description

Support for patients. This can include visiting, reading, taking walks, writing letters, interpreting for those who do not speak English, bringing in music, and supervising therapeutic visits with pets. Volunteers with necessary certification can also provide massage therapy.

Respite and support for family members. Volunteers can assist with shopping or light household maintenance, or allow family caregivers the opportunity to take care of necessary errands, exercise, or simply have some time alone. Volunteers can also help care for a family pet.

Bereavement support programs. Hospice volunteers can work closely with the hospice’s bereavement staff. Duties may include assisting a support group facilitator, serving refreshments, or helping with mailings to families.

Fundraising and administrative work. A volunteer with clerical skills can serve a hospice by helping in the office with administrative duties. Fundraising responsibilities can range from preparing mailings or thank-you letters to organizing fundraising events and contacting potential donors.

Special skills and interests. Many hospices utilize volunteers to maintain their grounds and landscaping. Notaries, barbers and beauticians often volunteer their services to patients. Musicians often volunteer to play at hospice inpatient facilities.
