Imagine working on historic grounds of Andre Smith’s Research Studio! Our core of dedicated volunteers fill vital roles within the organization, including sharing site information with visitors, ornamental gardening and propagation, and staffing special events.

Whether you have time to give weekly or just a few times a year, we hope that you join our team! Volunteer orientations are held on the first Saturday and third Wednesday of every month, and once orientation is completed, volunteers will be given access to our volunteer portal, where they can sign up for a multitude of exciting roles and projects.

Title: Gallery Attendant

Supervisor: Museum Engagement Manager

Schedule: Thursdays/Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays

Commitment: 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. on any day or days

Position Summary: The Gallery Attendant will assist the Museum Engagement Manager with furthering the A&H mission through guest services, ticket sales, and general information in our Art Gallery and Museums. Additional administrative tasks may be available.

Duties:
  • Greet visitors in a professional manner and process Gallery admissions
  • Maintain a Log of all guests for internal reports
  • Encourage memberships and provide appropriate applications
  • Engage with guests and provide accurate information about the A&H history, exhibitions, programming, classes and special events.
  • Work with the A&H staff as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent Guest Service Relation skills including a welcoming personality
  • Desire to learn, promote and share A&H’s mission
  • Ability to engage the guests in a professional and friendly manner
  • Work well independently
  • Willingness to learn computer programs used in the non-profit industry
  • Appreciation and respect for art and history
  • Ability to sit 95% of the time.

Additional Comments:

  • Appropriate training is provided to the volunteer in order to complete the assigned tasks

Description

The Art and History Museums Maitland formed by the 2010 merger of the Maitland Art Center and Maitland Historical Society, strives to promote, engage and educate all visitors about visual art and history through exhibitions, tours, classes, programming, special events, research services and volunteer opportunities.
