Ethan Allen Residence is looking for compassionate and caring individuals to spend time with our residents this summer listening to personalized music playlists with them. We have iPads, Amazon tablets, and iPods filled with personalized music available to our residents, although most of them need assistance utilizing this technology. Preferred music choices play an impactful role in the lives of aging individuals and of those living with dementia. The emotional memories attached to these songs does not disappear and they provide a great deal of comfort, reduce anxiety and isolation, and encourage prosocial behavior. We are seeking volunteers of all ages who want to make a difference in the lives of elders living in Vermont.

Daily activities can include:

• Listening to music inside our facility
• Listening to music outside on our patio on sunny days
• Listening to music while going on neighborhood walks
• Listening to music white exercising
• Listening to music while playing cards, doing crafts, or art
• Adding music to the background to stimulate engaging and meaningful conversations

Any time spent with our residents is valued and prior experience is not necessary, although human service experience of any kind is welcomed. We ensure that our volunteers feel as comfortable as possible by receiving training and by being readily available for assistance onsite. We are flexible and will work with your schedule.
