Teach Kids to Play Chess this Summer in East County!

At Contra Costa Interfaith Housing, we provide permanent housing with on-site supportive services to homeless or poverty-impacted families and individuals. We have been very successful at stabilizing our clients since 2002. One of the biggest services we provide are enrichment programs to the youth we serve.

During the summer months, our families cannot afford to send their children to off-site camps, so with the help from volunteers, camps come to the children at the sites at which they live. Los Medanos Village Apartments is one of the sites we serve in Pittsburg.

We are looking for a few volunteers to bring the love of chess to the kids for a minimum of 1 week (M-F). The ages range from 5-12 years old. There are about 12-20 children on any given day. Camp can run from 1-1.5 hours. Most of our mornings are already filled but many of our afternoons are availalble.

You will need to bring supplies to borrow but I am told that we have 2 or 3 chess sets.
