Join us for our Summer Excusion Program!
Our educational summer program runs Monday to Thursday from 9am to 5pm.
On Monday's we go swimming and on Wednesday we go on field trips to various locations such as Port Discovery, the Walters, Gennese Valley, Sky Zone, and many more.
Assistants work with instructors and program managers to serve approximately 50 children daily and incorporates:
- Supplemental reading
- Math and art education
- Community engagement activities
- Physical education
- Providing a safe and nurturing place to be after school and during the summer
Volunteers are expected to encourage participation from the children during these activities in addition to helping staff by:
- Working closely with Instructors, Program Managers and other staff to provide a safe and productive learning environment
- Helping instructors set up classrooms (tables, chairs, snacks and supplies) before the program starts
- Engaging with children in group settings to help them complete tasks or explain directions
- Manage behavior issues by removing children from the classroom for "breaks."
- Use good communication techniques taught in training
- Model good behavior by adhering to the Respectful Environment Policy and Reasonable Accommodation Policy
Volunteers who serve in this position will:
- Receive extensive classroom assistance experience
- Work with special needs students
- Gain knowledge about childhood development
- Build leadership experience
- Work alongside a friendly and supportive staff

Description
St. Francis Neighborhood Center is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3), community based organization in the Reservoir Hill area of Baltimore. Founded in 1963 as an outreach center for two local churches, the Center was incorporated in 1972 as a neighborhood nonprofit corporation, independent of any church affiliation. Since its inception, the Center has served as a cornerstone for community life for residents to meet, discuss, and to improve the quality of individual and communal life in Reservoir Hill. St. Francis' presence has served as a resource and catalyst for improving the lives of those in Reservoir Hill, and making Baltimore a better place.
Our programs create an approach that builds self-esteem, personal strength, academic, emotional, interpersonal, social, and community development that work to address complex challenges in an effort to break through the cycles of urban poverty. St. Francis Neighborhood Center offers Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings, personal counseling, community mediation, Peace Patrol walks, Community Library, Computer Lab, pot luck dinners, and an annual Health/Resource Fair. In an average month, we serve over 300 adults, youth, and families. All of our current programs, services, and events are free to the public.
