  • 4 people are interested

The northwest cancer patient summits are free cancer patient education events that aim to help improve the quality of life of cancer patients and their loved ones by educating them about various aspects of managing health after a cancer diagnosis and empowering them to make better health decisions for themselves.
These events take place every 3-4 months in Whatcom and Skagit counties, northwest Washington. Speakers include physicians and other healthcare providers who take care of cancer patients. Other panelists and speakers such as financial counselors, naturopaths, patient advocates etc. are also invited to speak depending on the topic.

We are seeking volunteers to help us with these cancer education events. Volunteers will help with participants registration, set up, and audiovisual support, photography, video broadcasts etc.

Description

Binaytara Foundation (BTF) was created to improve healthcare in resource-poor communities and improve cancer care worldwide. BTF focuses on reducing health disparities and promoting health equity in the United States and abroad. In the United States, BTF is focused on cancer education to reduce cancer care inequities. BTF offers continuing medical education programs to improve physician competence and performance, leading to improved patient outcomes.

The organization educates healthcare providers and community members, advocates for better access to care, and creates innovative program models and services that improve access to care. Through international partnerships and collaborations BTF has:

  • Supported establishment of the first and only bone marrow transplant center in Nepal at the Civil service Hospital In Kathmandu.

  • Helped start a cervical cancer screening program for women in Nepal

In 2018, the foundation opened the Binaytara Foundation Cancer Center (BTFCC) in Janakpur, Nepal. The 25-bed cancer hospital is the first and only cancer hospital in Province 2, a state with more than six million people. BTF has a goal to build the first phase of a new 200 bed hospital in Janakpur to serve patients in an area of 25 million people in Nepal and the neighboring Indian state of Bihar.
