Since 1952 Southern Pines Animal Shelter has been a pillar of the Hattiesburg community. Now a "no-kill" shelter, there has never been a more important time to support our lifesaving mission! By volunteering with us, you help support our goal of saving more lives than ever before. In 2018 we took in over 8,100 animals and maintained a lifesaving rate of >96%. That's great work, but we need your help to sustain our mission. Can you help us?

We have several specialized volunteer positions, but here are some of the areas and tasks our new volunteers help with;
  • Cleaning and Organizing
  • Dish Washing
  • Laundry
  • Assisting with our LIFESAVING Embark transport program
  • Making Cat and Dog Toys
  • Assisting with Adoption Events
With a little bit of extra training, these volunteers can also assist with adoption events hosted regularly at Petco & Petsmart. After attending Cat or Dog Care Provider training volunteers are able to socialize, walk, etc. our animals.

About Southern Pines Animal Shelter

Location:

1901 North 31st Ave., Hattiesburg, MS 39401, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide humane shelter for homeless and lost cats and dogs, provide affordable spay/neuter and healthy pet services, encourage adoptions and educate the community about responsible pet ownership.

Description

Southern Pines Animal Sheler, founded in 1952, is the largest open admission shelter to reach no-kill status in the state of Mississippi. Located in Hattiesburg, MS, it's been our mission for 66 years to welcome dogs and cats with open arms regardless of health, age, or perceived adoptability. In 2017 alone, we connected more than 6,650 homeless, abandoned, and neglected pets with loving families.

In order to continue this life-saving work, we must rely on the support of our adopters, volunteers, fosters, and donors. Without the generosity and support of people like you, this amazing work would not be possible. Only together can we continue to make a difference for the animals in our community.
