Meal Packing 1

Our kitchen is the Grand Central of Open Hand. As you would imagine, with nearly 5,500 meals to prepare, package and deliver every day, the atmosphere is electric. But it’s not all work - the music is always on, and the friendly banter among new friends never ceases. It all makes for a very memorable and rewarding experience.

Description:
Packing involves portioning food into individual containers and snack bags on our packing assembly line. With over 5,000 meals to package every day, your help is essential. This is a great project for individuals and families, and a great team-building exercise for school, business and church groups!

Volunteers are expected to stay for the entirety of their scheduled shift.

About Open Hand Atlanta

Location:

181 Armour Dr, Atlanta, GA 30324, US

Mission Statement

Mission: Open Hand helps people prevent or better manage chronic disease through Comprehensive Nutrition Care , which combines home-delivered meals and nutrition education as a means to reinforce the connection between informed food choices and improved quality of life. Vision: Open Hand seeks to eliminate disability and untimely death due to nutrition-sensitive chronic disease.

Description

Open Hand prepares, packages, and delivers over 6,000 meals each day to homebound seniors and individuals with chronic and terminal illnesses.

Perhaps our greatest strength is the constant support of thousands of volunteers. At Open Hand, people from all walks of life come together to touch the lives of thousands of others who are not as fortunate. Our volunteers are generally surprised at how much fun they have in the process--due in part to our wonderful food service and distribution staff that, along with other remarkable volunteers, make them feel as though they are always among friends.

Open Hand volunteers package meals, drive meal delivery routes, and work with our senior health and wellness programs. Without the dedication of each and every one of these incredible people, we simply could not do our very necessary work in our community.

We invite you--or a group from your place of business, your social group, your school or your place of worship--to volunteer with us. You’ll find that it’s a thoroughly unique and rewarding experience.
