Hospice patients who are in care homes are often the patients who have the fewest - or no - visitors. Sometimes even families are unable to visit due to distance, illness or some other reason. There's a misconception that because there are many other residents in care homes, patients don't get lonely. Not true. Most of the time the residents are not able to visit with each other due to physical or cognitive difficulties. Residents of care homes need friendship and simple human contact as much as anyone else, no matter what condition the person is in.
You can help. Socialization visits in care centers are easy and can be as simple as watching tv with a person, reading a book, listening to music together, playing cards or whatever activity engages or soothes the patient.
Please help us enhance the comfort that is hospice care by spending some time with some very precious people.
