BE THE CHANGE - Become a Court-Appointed Special Advocate!
** WE ARE CONDUCTING VIRTUAL INTERVIEWS **
Norfolk CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is recruiting volunteers for our next virtual Pre-Service Training class. This engaging and informative 6 week training will be held on T/TH evenings from 6-8pm via Zoom and begins in May 2024. There will also be an in-person workshop on a Saturday TBA from 9am-4pm.
Norfolk CASA is the oldest CASA program in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our volunteers advocate for abused and neglected children in the city of Norfolk. We are the child's voice in court, and a support for them as they traverse the court and social service systems. As the 'eyes and ears of the judge,’ we investigate and report our findings to the court at each hearing. Advocating always for the best interest of the child, we stay by their side until they are in a safe and permanent placement.
Because of the vulnerable population of children we serve, there is a thorough application and interview process. We do not require certain education or work experience, but you must pass reference and background checks. After being trained and sworn in as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA,) you will be assigned a case and see your CASA kids a minimum of once a month. On average, our CASA volunteers spend 10-15 hours each month working on their case.
If you are interested or have questions, please email volunteer@norfolkcasa.com or visit our website at www.norfolkcasa.com where you will find more information and links to the application.
