Mission Statement

Rolling Thunder Minnesota Chapter was established in April 2016. We are a non - profit organization set up to mainstream athletes who are developmentally disabled or have other special needs. We are a running, walking, and wheelers club set up specifically for these athletes. We stress important values; such as, Courage, Honesty, Integrity, Responsibility, Persistence and Loyalty. These are all qualities that are needed to be successful in life. Our goals are simple; Inclusion, Independence and Choice. We achieve this through participation in mainstream running and walking events. We are members of USA Track & Field. There is no charge to our athletes. The organization covers athletes’ expenses from shoes and clothing to race entries, association memberships, transportation, and anything else required for their participation in these events.

Description

Rolling Thunder Special Needs Program is a non-profit (501c3), one of a kind mainstream and inclusion based running, walking, and wheelchair racing team serving challenged individuals. A true inclusion program, Rolling Thunder integrates special needs individuals with their typical peers at all team practices, races and events. The club originated in 1998, with less than 15 athletes. Today, Rolling Thunder’s roster includes over 200 members! Rolling Thunder is a nationally recognized team, training athletes several days a week, year round to successfully compete in road and cross-country races, as well as track and field meets. Rolling Thunder trains athletes to reach their maximum potential, by providing discipline and structure in a supportive and competitive atmosphere. Rolling Thunder’s green uniforms have become a familiar sight on Long Island’s competitive running circuit.
