Our Dog Care Providers make a huge impact in the day to day care of our canine populations at the shelter. As a volunteer with a no-kill shelter, the work you do saves lives. Through our Dog Care volunteers our capacity for care increases meaning that we can devote time to the cats that need it most while also having the capacity to save more animals.
Volunteers will assist with kennel cleaning, laundry, dishwashing, dog walking, feeding, socializing, and a lot more. They play an important role in the everyday operation of the shelter by working alongside our kennel technicians to help provide for and take care of our canine populations.
Volunteers will receive training in the following areas; cleaning procedures, feeding guidelines, reading dog body language, proper dog-handling practices, and more.
We are looking for volunteers who can make a three-month commitment broken down into 1-3 three hour shifts per week, but we can work with volunteers based on availability.

Our mission is to provide humane shelter for homeless and lost cats and dogs, provide affordable spay/neuter and healthy pet services, encourage adoptions and educate the community about responsible pet ownership.
Description
Southern Pines Animal Sheler, founded in 1952, is the largest open admission shelter to reach no-kill status in the state of Mississippi. Located in Hattiesburg, MS, it's been our mission for 66 years to welcome dogs and cats with open arms regardless of health, age, or perceived adoptability. In 2017 alone, we connected more than 6,650 homeless, abandoned, and neglected pets with loving families.
In order to continue this life-saving work, we must rely on the support of our adopters, volunteers, fosters, and donors. Without the generosity and support of people like you, this amazing work would not be possible. Only together can we continue to make a difference for the animals in our community.
