Oak City Soccer provides sensory friendly soccer programs to youth on the autism spectrum or with sensory processing challenges. On June 9th we are in need of volunteer buddies to pair up with participants in our mini soccer camp. You will help guide, support, and encourage them through a variety of soccer and camp movement activities. You do not need to have any soccer experience. This program will last from 12:00 -4:00 pm at MVP Sports in Wake Forest. It is possible to volunteer in two hour shifts if preferred for this event. More information about the event and our program can be found at oakctiysoccer.net

Mission Statement
To provide youth on the autism spectrum or with sensory processing challenges the opportunity to play soccer while fostering social skills and creating awareness and acceptance within the community.
Description
Oak City Soccer was founded in April 2016 by an occupational therapist and soccer enthused autism parents to provide a supportive and nurturing place for children to learn and enjoy soccer. We provide specialized soccer instruction for children ages 2 and up with autism or sensory processing challenges in a safe and adaptive environment. We use a volunteer buddy system to provide support and encouragement to our participants throughout the sessions. We customize classes based on age, skill, and assist level needed. We focus on soccer skills as well as coordination, motor planning, social skills, and sportsmanship.
Our goal is to continue providing soccer instruction while cultivating the skills needed to transition into typical leagues. This also includes establishing a modified league to facilitate the transition and ensure optimal success and fun from our participants.
