Come help us give pet owners the information they need to keep themselves & their pets safe!
The 2018 Extreme Weather Ready Expo will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center on Saturday June 2, 2018. This free Hurricane Preparedness workshop attracts around 3,000 attendees each year and is presented to prepare residents before hurricane season through presentations, interactive exhibits, hurricane season forecasting and much more. It is well attended by the local print and television media.
With the help of trained dogs from our partners, the booth will demonstrate:
- Pet disaster preparedness, training and planning
- Pet disaster supplies
- Evacuating with pets
- Sheltering in-place with pets
- Keeping pets safe and healthy during disaster recovery.
Event hours are 10am to 3pm and volunteer shifts are 9:30am to 12:30pm and 12:30pm to 3:30pm, although we welcome anyone who would like to stay for the day.
Volunteer duties will include assisting with volunteers check in, speaking to the public about each section of the disaster, helping people through the exhibit and giving out prizes.
To volunteer, email VPHvolunteer@hcphes.org!

Mission Statement
Harris County Veterinary Public Health works in close partnership with the community to create a safe and healthy environment for people and animals.
Description
We accomplish our mission through bite case investigations, disease surveillance, animal law enforcement, stray animal control, education, rabies vaccination, policy development and registration of dogs and cats within unincorporated Harris County.
VPH is committed to providing humane, compassionate, quality care to animals in our facility. We attempt to return lost pets to their owners and strive to place as many of our unclaimed shelter animals as possible into new "forever homes" through our adoption program, the help of our rescue partners and transfers to other animal sheltering agencies.
For those animals that need a little extra "TLC" or veterinary care before they are suitable for adoption, we have a robust animal fostering team made up of dedicated staff and volunteers.
