Literacy Volunteers of Central Connecticut is seeking volunteers! Become a tutor with LVCC and help our adult students achieve their work, family, and community goals.
All prospective tutors must be age 18 and over with a minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent) and good writing skills. Observations, support, and training will be provided.
There will be training for people interested in working with adult students who need help speaking English, reading and writing. This English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) tutor training* will be held on all of the following dates July 9, 12, 16, 19 (10AM-12:30PM) at the New Britain Public Library- (all dates must be attended)
*If you have a background as an educator you may qualify to waive this tutor training.

Literacy Volunteers of Central CT provides small group and one-on-one literacy tutoring to over 350 low literate adults through student centered learning and mentoring, from volunteer tutors who receive high quality training and ongoing support.

Position Statement
Literacy Volunteers of Central CT provides instruction, assistance and encouragement to those adult members of our community who want to improve their skills in reading, writing, or speaking English so that they can achieve their work, family, and community goals.
We recruit and train volunteers who tutor and also act as mentors for students that may need help with cultural or societal issues as well as language difficulties.Description
Volunteers are trained to help adults reach their community, work, family, and education goals through English literacy. We serve over 360 students per year from New Britain/Middletown and surrounding towns.
