Little and Big Brother

The Hillsboro School District and Big Brothers Big Sisters are launching a youth mentoring and support program for 9th grade Latino young men in the district at the start of the 2018-19 school year. The purpose of this program is to increase positive school connection and belonging, improve academic outcomes, and ultimately increase graduation and college-going rates for program participants through various strategies, including mentoring from Big Brothers Big Sisters.

We are looking for male volunteers who can be a consistent caring adult friend to spend one-on-one time with the student once a week acting as a friend. The minimum commitment is 12 months, including summer break. This is not a classroom program and it's not tutoring. Of course, some students will talk with their Bigs about class, or ask for help with homework, but it's really all about friendship and guidance.

During the school year, Bigs & Littles will meet once a week at the school from 3:30-4:15. We ask that Bigs commit to meeting a minimum of three times per month. The program will be available at Century High, Glencoe High, Hillsboro High and Liberty High.
