About REACH Studio Art Center

Location:

1804 S. Washington, Lansing, MI 48910, US

Mission Statement

Believing that art in all its forms can be a vehicle for hope and healing, REACH Studio Art Center exists to foster awareness of, appreciation for, encouragement in and skill acquisition of the arts within a neighborhood setting. Reach seeks to connect artists with local residents, local residents with each other, and artists with other artists, and people with a better understanding of their place in this world, creating an atmosphere of connectedness, shared pride and creative problem solving.

Description

Reach Studio Art Center is a nonprofit neighborhood art activitiy center located just south of downtown Lansing in "REO Town" - an area of Lansing undergoing revitalization. Reach is surrounded by several diverse, lower to middle class neighborhoods with a high population of children. Reach's mission is to provide creative visual art experiences to the children, youth and adults especially from the surrounding area, with the premise that many lower income residents have limited or no access to extra curricular arts activities. Programming at Reach includes a free (3x weekly) after school art activity drop-in called "Creative Connections" (CC) October through May, registration/fee-based art classes, workshops and open studios, summer day camps and involvement in special grant funded community art projects.
