Each year, hundreds of volunteers come together for Neighborhood Beautification Day in southwest Detroit to plant gardens, weed and mulch, paint, and clear brush and debris. This year’s event is on Saturday, June 2 from 8:00 a.m. to noon. It begins at the Ford Resource and Engagement Center (the Mercado) for breakfast and orientation. Volunteers then work in teams at 11 sites. UNI will be working with the community at two cites. Peoples Park 2017 Springwells and Bird Habitat 8302 Cahalan The annual Neighborhood Beautification Day is truly a collaborative effort of residents, community organizations, businesses, and individuals committed to community service and the continuing revitalization of southwest Detroit.

Urban Neighborhood Initiatives (UNI) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation that works with communities in urban neighborhoods to build safe and thriving environments where people want to live, work, and play. We believe that healthy neighborhoods are the basic building blocks of a successful city. Accordingly, UNI concentrates on one neighborhood at a time as it builds an inclusive, collaborative template for a given community's renewal. UNI is based within Springwells Village, a 1.3 square mile southwest Detroit neighborhood bounded by Fort, Dix and Waterman Streets.
