We are looking for volunteers to help out during our concerts. This includes selling tickets at the door, setting up/breaking down tables and chairs, selling merchandise, hanging posters in neighboring communities, or other tasks related to concert or educational productions and fundraising. Concerts are held approximately twice each month from October through December in Portsmouth or Newport. Volunteers are put on an email list and have the opportunity to sign up before each show.

Concert schedule is Nov 6, Nov 20, Dec 4, Dec 18.

Volunteer perk: Volunteers as always can attend the show for free. As an added bonus, any volunteers will also receive a free companion ticket for a guest to attend the 10/16 show.

Important note: All CFM Staff and Volunteers must be vaccinated and are required to wear a mask while indoors.

Merchandise Sales (2):

  1. Staff CFM and Artist Merchandise table
  2. Unpack and display all merchandise
  3. Learn to use Square credit card sales platform
  4. Work with cash and keep cash box balanced
  5. Keep tally of sales by item and price
  6. Report total artist merchandise sales to Artistic Director at end of performance
  7. Commitment - 1 hour prior to show through up to 1 hour after show.

Set-up (1):

  1. Role varies by location
  2. Assist Artistic Director and sound engineer with stage set-up
  3. Set out folding chairs and tables
  4. Commitment - 2 hours before show

Breakdown (same 2 as above, unless we can arrange 2 other people):

  1. Role varies by location
  2. Assist Artistic Director and sound engineer with stage breakdown
  3. Put away folding chairs and tables
  4. Teardown and pack away concessions table
  5. Commitment - up to 2 hours after show

Ticket Sales & Admission (1):

  1. Staff CFM ticket sales table
  2. Learn to use Square credit card sales platform
  3. Work with cash and keep cash box balanced
  4. Keep tally of sales
  5. Report total sales to Artistic Director at end of performance
  6. Check pre-printed tickets at door
  7. Sell tickets to future concerts
  8. Commitment - 1 hour prior to the show through end of show

Vaccine Card Checker (2):

  1. Check vaccine card and IDs at front door
  2. Check negative test and IDs at front door
  3. Commitment - 90 min prior to show through end of show

Green Room Attendant (1):

  1. Handle the green room
  2. Get snacks and have food prepared for the artist
  3. Commitment - 2 hours prior to the show through up to 1 hour at the end of show

Common Fence Music is a 501(c)(3) non-profit performing arts organization dedicated to bringing high-caliber folk, roots and world music performances and educational opportunities to Rhode Island's Aquidneck Island and East Bay community. Since its inception in 1993, the organization has presented hundreds of nationally and internationally-acclaimed artists at the Common Fence Point Hall in Portsmouth, RI and the Casino Theatre in Newport, RI.
