I need volunteers to: 1. Take shifts helping out at the kids art table in our CASA Community Outreach booth at the Des Moines Arts Festival and/or 2. Do prep work before the festival cutting out the shapes for the kids to make 3-D houses.
#1. would primarily involve making sure lids got back on glue sticks and markers (try to remind the kids to self regulate) and materials be organised in an orderly fashion. Me or another volunteer can show you how the house is made at the site (very easy) so you can show kids how to do it. You may need to help a kid get started or help them find a picture to glue on.
These 'artists' will create a 3-D representation of a home using the precut cardstock and decorating them with markers and gluing pictures and decorative from ads or magazines. The activity interprets our mission to help vulnerable children achieve permanence in a safe, happy and loving home.
If you would rather just donate materials for this activity before the event, that's fine also.
If you have any chipboard, cardstock, markers, glue sticks, home decorating magazines, wall paper samples, images of toys, windows, doors, electronics, animals, or other fun stuff, we could use it.

Mission Statement
Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes. Too many spend years moving from one temporary home to another. They have no family to call their own. They are more likely than other children to face homelessness, unemployment, even prison as adults. That's why CASA is important. CASA was created to make sure the abuse and neglect these children originally suffered at home doesn't continue as abuse and neglect at the hands of the system. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. The result is that a child is placed into a safe, loving home where he/she can thrive.
Description
CASA volunteers are ordinary people who are committed to doing what is best for a child. All our volunteers are trained in courtroom procedure, social services, the juvenile justice system, and the special needs of abused and neglected children. We welcome volunteers from all cultures, professions, and ethnic and educational backgrounds.
