Community Based Mentoring

Big Brothers Big Sisters - Pikes Peak
Colorado Springs, CO

We are currently in the 100th anniversary of Big Brothers Big Sisters in Colorado. Over the last 100 years, its estimated that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado (including Pikes Peak) has served over 75,000 youth in our communities and provided nearly 3.8 million volunteer hours through our mentors.

Have you ever thought of yourself as a mentor? The majority of the Bigs in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program didn't either, but they are changing the lives of kids in Colorado every day, by just being a consistent, genuine, trusted friend.

The men and women who volunteer to become Big Brothers and Big Sisters come from many different cultures, backgrounds, and diversity of jobs, but they all share a common goal - to provide a child in need with the one-to-one support, guidance, and friendship needed to reach his or her full potential.

Community Based Mentoring: Volunteers are matched with a child (ages 9 to 12) to be that child's mentor and friend. Volunteers commit to the match relationship for a minimum of one year, spending time with their Little two to four times each month. Big Brothers Big Sisters staff members support the mentors, offering suggestions, counsel and assistance.

Volunteers must be 21 years of age, have a valid driver's license and auto insurance, and be able to pass a thorough background check.

This is our traditional mentoring program for which Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (nationally) has been best and most known for.

Right now, Big Brothers Big Sisters - Pikes Peak is in need of men to volunteer as Big Brothers. We currently have several young kids enrolled as Little Brothers waiting to be matched with a Big. We also have several more on our wait list, waiting to be enrolled. Please consider volunteering! Also, please spread the word. Any and all help with recruiting male volunteers would be greatly appreciated.

We are having a Volunteer Orientation on Wednesday, May 30th from 5:30pm - 7:00pm at our downtown offices in Colorado Springs. An orientation will provide a comprehensive overview of volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters, and it is the first step in enrolling as a Big. Please reach out to us if you are interested in attending!
