Musical Play volunteers will assist visitors with informal percussion play in the My Voice, Your Hands, a musical playground composed of five large, sculptural instruments in the Creativity Jam gallery. The volunteer will serve as an "expert" in music and create additional capacity for the museum to offer a guided, musical experience to our visitors.
Responsibilities
The Musical Play volunteer is responsible for creating a welcoming, relaxed environment for visitors to explore the sculptural instruments in our new percussive playground. The volunteer will introduce different musical concepts through their own play while encouraging and guiding visitors to explore music and sound on their own or through collaboration.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience of basic musical techniques and concepts.
- Ability to guide young children and adults in musical techniques without taking over the process.
- Interest in interacting with young children and their adult caregivers from a variety of backgrounds.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with groups of people and tolerate busy or crowded situations
- Ability to follow oral instructions and ask for assistance and additional explanation as necessary.
