CSA Assistant
Handing out a CSA share to another satisfied customer!

Are you interested in seeing how a CSA program functions behind the scenes? In this position, you will be the face of the Adelante Mujeres CSA at our New Seasons Orenco Station pick up site. As members arrive to pick up their CSA shares, you will be check them in and retrieve their shares from the back of the store. You'll also have the chance to answer any questions they may have and talk to them about the produce in their shares, if they are interested. This is a great way to learn how our CSA model operates and to practice your customer service skills!
Our members love to see the same person at the pick ups each week, so we are hoping for a volunteer who can commit to the whole season. However, any help you can offer is great!

What is CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture is a program that allows local community members to buy local fruit and vegetables directly from the source.

In most CSA relationships, the produce is distributed to members in weekly "shares," which the community members purchase in advance at the beginning of the growing season.

In the Adelante Mujeres CSA, our Distributor buys local produce from many farmers, who are also Sustainable Agriculture program participants, and compiles the produce into shares for the CSA members each week.

Purchasing CSA shares in the spring allows the farmers guaranteed sales throughout the season, stabilizing their income in the very hectic world of produce sales.

Because we believe that every family should have access to fresh produce, our CSA accepts SNAP benefits.

We will also need a volunteer or two to help staff our New Seasons at Orenco Station CSA pick up in Hillsboro, which would be from 4:30 pm to 7:15 pm on Mondays, starting June 18th. This will consist of checking members in and going to get their shares from the back for them.

Mission Statement

We're on a mission to build a more just society by empowering Latinas to lead. Adelante Mujeres provides holistic education and empowerment opportunities to low income Latina women and their families to ensure full participation and active leadership in the community.

Description

Adelante Mujeres was founded in 2002 by Bridget Cooke and Sister Barbara Raymond. Through their work in other local organizations, Bridget and Barbara noticed that Latina women did not actively participate in the programs. They founded Adelante Mujeres to empower these women, who were often relegated to the home. As the founders suspected, when presented the opportunity to attend a program focused on and developed for women, these same women quickly found their voices. For over 10 years, Adelante Mujeres has served western Washington County by providing holistic education and empowerment opportunities to low income Latina women and their families, in order to ensure full participation and active leadership in the community.
