The Computer Literacy Volunteer assists clients to develop valuable basic computer skills, including basic computer operation, typing skills, using the internet and email, and the use of Microsoft Office computer programs specialized to support all clients, including English language learners. The Computer Literacy volunteer will also support the Education program by working with Adult ESL students during evening computer classes. The volunteer will also assist the Minnesota Opportunity Corps Service Member in providing individual service to clients of CLUES.
Position Type: Volunteer Service
Schedule:
- Open Lab hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 1pm-3pm.
- Evening Computer classes: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:30pm-7:30pm
- Minimum time commitment: 2-5 hours/week.

Responsibilities:
- Provide friendly, professional educational assistance to students in evening classes, as well as participants taking part in CLUES career services programs.
- Demonstrate eager willingness to work independently, as well as with a group of participants and educators to create a welcome learning environment.
- Support program activities by researching new curriculum content and preparing educational materials as requested by supervisor.
- Supervise appropriate use of the computer lab environment, making sure clients are engaged in learning.
- Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, agency policies and other applicable laws, regulations and ethical standards
CLUES reserves the right to terminate an internship or volunteer commitment if behavior is not in compliance with CLUES policies.
Qualifications:
- General knowledge of computers.
- Strong interest in working with clients in a cross-cultural environment.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English, and cultural competency required.
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
- Ability to work independently, being creative and flexible.
- Experience with or interest in broad computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs, internet navigation, and basic computer components. (i.e. keyboard, monitor, etc.)
- Enthusiasm for helping people to learn.
Requirements & Training:
- Volunteer training as needed, provided by supervisor.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- As a condition of continued service, volunteer may be required to submit to periodic re-verification of these background checks.

CLUES is Minnesota’s largest Latino-led nonprofit organization, founded in 1981. Today it serves over 10,000 Latinos, immigrants, and neighborhood-based clients throughout the Twin Cities area.
