Reports to: Volunteer Coordinator, Kennel Shift Lead, Administrative Sergeant

Position Function & Organizational Impact:

  • Assist Community Relations Officer by helping adopters complete all adoption paperwork and provide administrative support
  • Assist visitors with their visit, including where to go and how adoption works
  • Improve our hospitality services by greeting and signing in visitors
  • Improve adoption efficiency to increase adoption numbers

Time Commitment and Location of Work:

  • Indianapolis Animal Care Services
  • Shelter Ambassadors must volunteer on a regular basis to remain up-to-date with policies and procedures; must volunteer a minimum of 8 hours each month with a preference for committing to the same 2-hour (or more) shift weekly
  • Regular, required meetings will also take place to discuss changes to policies, and address any questions and concerns as a group

Goals:

  • Assist Community Relations Officers by assisting adoption visitors, and helping to complete administrative duties
  • Streamline adoption process to improve efficiency and increase adoption numbers
  • Provide exceptional service to our visitors
  • Answer visitors’ questions

Core responsibilities:

  • Greet each visitor and explain adoption process
  • Assist visitors with adoption paperwork
  • Ensure appropriate personnel know which animals are being adopted
  • Assist staff with administrative duties as requested

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must be an active IACS volunteer
  • Warm, friendly, enthusiastic personality
  • Comfortable interacting with dogs and/or cats
  • Ability to follow specific instructions from staff
  • Enjoys engaging with IACS’s visitors, volunteers, and staff
  • Commitment to the philosophy of IACS’s mission and Volunteer Code of Conduct
  • Must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer for this position
  • Track and input hours worked into the IACS database
  • Regular access to email to receive updates
  • Must complete volunteer orientation
  • Must complete level 1 canine and level 1 feline training
  • Show appropriate maturity and responsibility
Help needed:
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 10am-6pm
