Petsmart Volunteering - Castleton
Reports to: Team Lead, Volunteer Coordinator
Position Function & Organizational Impact:
- Provide basic care for our off-site adoption cats, including cleaning and socializing
- Assist Petsmart with various needs in their cat adoption center
- Provide enrichment opportunities and positive interactions for our cats
Time Commitment and Location of Work:
- Petsmart Castleton
- Must commit to a weekly schedule
Goals:
- Provide necessary care for our cats
- Assist with regular cleaning tasks
- Socialize with the cats and provide enrichment
- Gain insight on pets’ behaviors
- Use de-stress techniques to make cats more comfortable
- Provide enrichment opportunities
Core responsibilities:
- Check in with Petsmart staff to learn of specific needs
- Scoop litter boxes on a regular basis
- Engage with visitors
- Socialize with cats
- Make appropriate notations regarding cats walked, behaviors, medical concerns, etc.
- Utilize provided de-stressing techniques
- Spend quality time with pets to gain trust
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Warm, friendly, enthusiastic personality
- Comfortable interacting with cats with various temperaments
- Must be able to walk, bend and stoop
- Ability to follow specific instructions from staff
- Must be able to lift 30 pounds
- Enjoys engaging with Petsmart’s visitors, volunteers, and staff
- Commitment to the philosophy of IACS’s mission and Volunteer Code of Conduct
- Must be 12 years of age, and accompanied by an adult, or 16 years of age without an adult to volunteer for this position.
- Track and input hours worked into the IACS database
- Regular access to email to receive updates
- Show appropriate maturity and responsibility
