Purpose of Position:

The Event Outreach Intern will gain valuable experience in the areas of community outreach and event marketing while working alongside the Director of Communications and Marketing to assist with the marketing, outreach and execution of CLUES’ events and special projects.

Position Type: Unpaid Internship (Volunteer)

Schedule:

  • This position would have a flexible schedule, 10-15 hours per week. Some hours will be required in the office and others will be spent in the community distributing materials. Specific scheduling with be arranged with the supervisor.
  • Minimum time commitment: Must be able to work at least 10 hours a week for 12 weeks, for a minimum of 120 hours, from June through at least August 18, 2018. There is the potential to begin earlier or continue longer.

Responsibilities:

  • Community Outreach - Distribute postcards, posters, table tents and/or other event materials to businesses, restaurants and other institutions throughout the Twin Cities.
  • Assist CLUES staff with press relations by supporting with drafting press releases, submitting to various media outlets and following up afterward.
    • Potential opportunities to appear on radio and/or TV interviews promoting CLUES’ events, to be determined.
  • Create engagement for events on Facebook and other social media by creating a content calendar and posting relevant content such as videos, photos and information about our performers and sponsors.
    • May also support in the creation and management of social media advertisements.
  • Promote events on a variety of online and print community calendars.
  • Support live streaming of events. Help operate streaming camera(s) and/or potential to serve as onsite "personality" to engage with our social media audience during the event.
  • Support email marketing efforts by helping to draft content and putting together engaging email campaigns leading up to and following CLUES events.
  • Support in the creation and distribution of a toolkit for sponsors and vendors to help them promote their attendance and participation at CLUES events (email templates, sample social media posts, postcards, banners, fliers, etc.)
  • Other event support as assigned

CLUES reserves the right to terminate an internship or volunteer commitment if behavior is not in compliance with CLUES policies.

Qualifications:

  • Must be fluent in verbal and written English and Spanish.
  • Must be confident visiting and interacting with a wide variety of local businesses in English and Spanish.
  • Must be highly organized and have experience in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Must demonstrate cultural sensitivity and awareness, professionalism, and responsibility.
  • Experience in community outreach, digital marketing, public relations and/or event coordination preferred.

Transportation

  • Must have a reliable motor vehicle for independent transportation, valid driver’s license, proof of automotive insurance, and maintain a good driving record. Must submit to and pass annual recertification of compliance with CLUES Automobile and Transportation Policy and driving record check.

Requirements & Training

  • Training will be provided initially and on-going as needed
  • A criminal background check will be required.
  • A driving record check will be required.
  • As a condition of continued service, volunteer may be required to submit to periodic re-verification of these background checks.

CLUES is Minnesota’s largest Latino-led nonprofit organization, founded in 1981. Today it serves over 10,000 Latinos, immigrants, and neighborhood-based clients throughout the Twin Cities area. With offices in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, its current mission is to "Improve the quality of life of Latinos in Minnesota". CLUES’ family-centric model of delivery focuses on empowering clients to live healthy lives and become economically self-sufficient.
