Energetic volunteers of all ages needed to play alongside children with special needs & help Camp Director transition through activities during 6 separate weeks of Summer Camp!

Brooks Avenue Church of Christ has been a staple in the special needs community for 18+ years and this will be the 5th year of our Summer Camp for children/teens/young adults with special needs. Camp will run for 6 separate weeks in the months of July and August and there are full time and part time volunteer opportunities. We have had many of our previous volunteers go on to be Camp Counselors, Directors, and professionals in this field. We hope you will find a passion just like many before you! We will have forms for each volunteer at the end of your time with us that states the hours you worked in case you need this for educational or professional reasons.

Special Summer Camp will be held Mon-Fri from July 2nd-Aug 10th, 8am-4pm (6 separate weeks with FT and PT options available). We are looking for energetic volunteers to: parallel play, provide true companionship, assist as needed while campers transition through games and activities and generally assist the Director through the days events. Since it takes time for Volunteers and Campers to establish relationships, volunteers are strongly encouraged to sign up for the same shift (FT or PT) for at least one entire week to be the most helpful. Signing up for multiple weeks is great! However if you are only able to sign up for various days, we can accommodate that as well.

Previous experience working with children with special needs is encouraged but not required. Volunteers over 16 years old will be required to complete a background check provided by the church at no cost to you. Please send an email to specialneeds@brooks.org to request a Background Check Form and allow 7-10 days for processing. Volunteer Orientations are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED and will be offered on Thursday, May 31st 6-7pm or Monday, June 18th, 6-7pm.
