What is STEM Mentoring?
The overall goal of STEM Mentoring is to positively impact the social development and academic achievement of youth ages 6-10. STEM Mentoring consists of fun, hands-on activities, group projects, and multimedia connections that engage mentors and mentees in a variety of STEM topics, with a particular focus on conservation. Through weekly group mentoring sessions and additional STEM enrichment activities, youth are exposed to inspiring scientists, engineers, and conservationists, who represent a variety of careers and education pathways. By providing consistent, high-quality, STEM-focused mentoring experiences, STEM Mentoring encourages a reduction in high-risk behaviors, improvement of academic success indicators, and an overall increase in knowledge of and interest in STEM topics and careers for participating youth.
What are Energy Engineers?
In the Energy Engineers module, mentors and mentees will explore renewable energy - including energy from the sun, wind, and water. They will learn about the different kinds of renewable energy, where to find them, and how using them can help keep our planet clean. Mentees will play games and do hands-on activities like making a solar fan, creating their own water wheel, measuring the speed of the wind, and more. This module will give mentors and mentees the opportunity to have fun and build meaningful relationships - all while learning how to save energy and protect the environment.
Explore what you can do to save energy and protect the environment.
We are scheduled to have 8 sessions with a fun culminating event with family and friends!

Description
At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley, we have been enriching the lives of children in the Santa Clara Valley for more than six decades. By providing access to innovative programs, inspiring leaders and an enlightened perspective on life, we help children overcome boundaries and achieve their dreams.
Founded in 1944, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley (BGCSV) is an affiliate member of the Boys & Girls Club of America, and currently serves over 3,000 members, ages 6 to 18, at 9 facilities throughout the San Jose area.
Our target population in the City of San Jose is at-risk youth ages 6 to 18 that are vulnerable to influences from gangs and other negative pressures that would adversely affect their abilities to become successful adults.
