Mission Statement

The mission of Elements of Empowerment, Inc. is to foster cultural awareness, acceptance, and preservation by educating, enriching, and empowering communities through artistic cultural programs, presentations and events.

Description

Elements of Empowerment, Inc. was established September 27, 2016. Our mission is to foster cultural awareness, acceptance, and preservation by educating, enriching, and empowering communities through artistic cultural programs, presentations, and events.

Elements of Empowerment, Inc. partners with the City of Belmont to sponsor and host the annual Belmont Juneteenth Celebration, a cultural festival of arts, crafts, food, music, and more. The celebration is typically held on the third Saturday of June.

The Community Jazz Series is an initiative in partnership with Belmont Abbey College. The inaugural season was October 2017 - February 2018. Over the course of four concerts, audiences experienced jazz as performed by Tyrone Jefferson & A Sign of the Times, David Pankey Trio, and Judith Porter& Friends. The second season is scheduled for September 2018 - February 2019.

In January 2018, Elements of Empowerment, Inc. introduced Cultural Readings & Rhythms From The Rocker. The original reading program which ran from January to May 2018, featured guest storytellers. The storytelling platform for the series was a culturally-inspired rocking chair, custom-painted by local artist Catherine Courtlandt McElvane. The series will resume in January 2019.

Elements of Empowerment, Inc. is developing additional offerings that will expand cultural opportunities for Gaston County and the surrounding region.
