Dock Master Assistants:

  • Greet boaters and welcome them to the museum and the Historic Rondout Waterfront. Provide some information about the museum, as well as things to do and see while in Kingston.
  • Check their reservation status (if they did not make a reservation the Dock Master Assistant directs them to the Museum Store to pay for docking).
  • Make sure boats are docked in their assigned spot.
  • Tie and untie boats to posts.
  • Communicate with Museum Store staff to let them know which boats are currently docked to ensure that the boaters receive free admission and a 10% discount in the store.
  • Works with the Dock Master on staff.

This volunteer position is part of Visitor Services. It's a great opportunity to meet people and add to the visitor experience at the Hudson River Maritime Museum.

Mission Statement

Located on the historic Rondout waterfront, the Hudson River Maritime Museum was established in 1980 to collect, preserve, research, exhibit, and interpret a collection of historical artifacts related to the maritime heritage of the Hudson River and its tributaries. This is the only museum in New York State exclusively dedicated to this mission.

Description

The Hudson River Maritime Museum is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the maritime history of the Hudson River, its tributaries, and related industries.

The Hudson River Maritime Museum shares its knowledge, research, and collections through public events, lectures, education programs and activities, exhibitions, and publications.

The museum also partners with other non-profit organizations such as the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Inc., the Rondout Rowing Club and Kingston High School Crew Team, Riverkeeper, the Kingston Sailing Club, and more.
