New Directions for people with disabilities, inc. (New Directions Travel) is gearing up for this year's really fun and free Social Event, a "Travel Around the World!" themed event for over 300 adults with intellectual disabilities, their families, and friends! We need you and are hoping that you will volunteer to help!

This cool and hip extravaganza is on Saturday, June 29th at the lovely Decker's Rotunda located on Hollister Ave. in Goleta. The plans include live "Elvis Tribute Artist" entertainment, dancing, lunch, photo & video booths, face painting, and a caricature artist. You will not want to miss this!

The official event time is 12noon - 4:00 pm. We will need help starting at 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. We need volunteers for the whole shift and partial shifts. We also will need some help for set up the day before.

Our events are always truly extraordinary and this one may be the best of all! If you can find a way to help, we will be forever grateful! Please contact our volunteer coordinator Jeanne Mohle at (805)967-2841.

New Directions believes that people with disabilities deserve the same opportunities in life that most of us take for granted. We provide an atmosphere in which people with disabilities are accepted and treated as individuals, exploring new worlds in an environment of love and respect. All our travel programs are specifically designed to give our participants the opportunity to enjoy both the simple pleasures of everyday life and the special joys of new experiences. Learning, forming new friendships, discovering hidden talents and achieving personal breakthroughs are just part of what a New Directions tour is all about.

We strive to offer each person the maximum opportunity for choice, independence, socialization and the application of practical living skills. Of course, we don't forget to add a solid dose of just plain old fun.

New Directions has an Integrated Work Program, helping people with disabilities acquire paid employment and the necessary skills to be competent in the work force. Currently, there are four part-time employees adding hours of valuable skills to this vital organization. This program exists to encourage people with disabilities to reach their full potential and to be contributing members of an integrated work environment.

As a non profit organization, we depend on the community and like minded individuals to help us achieve these goals. New Directions would be delighted to count you as a supporter. If you would like further information, please don't hesitate to call or write. We look forward to hearing from you.
