PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) is seeking to form a team of skilled volunteers for an archiving project to commemorate and document the organization's 40-year history. The goal of the project will be to develop a timeline which will be used to create a visual display for NCADV’s 17th National Conference on Domestic Violence in September 2018 in Rhode Island. The timeline will document key events in the organization’s history, show how NCADV started and how the mission and vision have evolved over the 40 years as well as showcase the critical steps that were made in the national movement to end domestic violence.
TIME COMMITMENT
Time commitment varies, but the expectation is that each team member will commit to a minimum of 3-5 hours per week through September 2018. The volunteer site is located in Denver, Colorado. Volunteers must attend one of the volunteer orientations at the NCADV offices on one of the following dates: Thursday, June 7, from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. or Thursday, June 14, from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Volunteers must be available to meet weekly at the NCADV offices.
VOLUNTEER ROLE
We are looking for those who have knowledge and expertise in archiving and/or or library science, strong analytical skills, accuracy, consistency and attention to detail. Volunteers will be looking through boxes of files and documents from two storage lockers. The goal will be to identify key events in NCADV history, show how the organization started and how it has evolved over the 40 years and to paint a picture of the role that NCADV has played in the national movement to end domestic violence. Volunteers must be comfortable working as part of a team as well be able to discern relevant, accurate information.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience in library science or archival management preferred
- The qualified candidate will have excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work as a part of a team of volunteers
- Ideal candidate will also be a flexible team player, detail oriented, have strong analytical skills, and the ability to discern relevant and accurate information
- Demonstrated understanding and interest in the NCADV mission

NCADV's work includes coalition building at the local, state, regional and national levels; support for the provision of community-based, non-violent alternatives - such as safe home and shelter programs - for battered women and their children; public education and technical assistance; policy development and innovative legislation; focus on the leadership of NCADV's caucuses and task forces developed to represent the concerns of organizationally under represented groups; and efforts to eradicate social conditions which contribute to violence against women and children. NCADV's main office is located in Denver, Colorado. The Public Policy Office of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) is a national leader in the effort to create and influence federal legislation that positively effects the lives of battered women and children. We work closely with women's advocates at the local, state and national level to identify the issues facing battered women, their children and the people who serve them and to develop a legislative agenda to address these issues. Located in Washington, D.C., the Public Policy Office represents the needs of its over 2,000 members and coalition partners to elected officials in Congress.
