Volunteer Title: Training Committee Administrative Support Volunteer

Purpose of Role: Adult Behavioral Health (ABH) is a service component providing case management services to individuals who are civilly committed and have severe and persistent mental illness and/or are chemically dependent. Every month the ABH Training Committee puts on a training for all and any of their staff. This role would support the ABH Training Committee by assisting in the planning and logistics process every month.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Attend the ABH Training Committee monthly planning meetings (every second Tues of the month)
  • Take organized and thorough notes at planning committee meetings
  • Help secure training locations via Outlook calendars
  • Communicate with the presenters and trainers to schedule trainings
  • Send out Outlook invites to all staff and others as needed
  • Manage the logistics with the presenters and trainers (time/locations/parking etc.)
  • Get materials printed for training attendees either prior or the day of event
  • Help set up rooms and get technology set up the day of the training if able and needed

Requirements:

  • Have administrative and planning experience
  • Excellent listening and note taking abilities
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills
  • Experience using or ability to quickly learn Microsoft Outlook
  • Ability to work as part of collaborative teams
  • Must be very organized and on-top of tasks and processes
  • Volunteers must be reliable and keep the agreed upon schedule whenever possible
  • Acts professionally and respect all staff in the work environment
  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and pass a standard background check

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 6-10 hours each month.
    • In-person every second Tuesday mornings for 2 hours for planning meetings
    • In-person attend monthly training for 2 hours, date/time vary each month (this isn’t required but preferred)
    • Can schedule and manage logistics from home on own time
  • Asking for at least a 6 month commitment to project

Location:

  • 1800 Chicago Ave, Minneapolis MN, 55404 are where meetings are held, but ability to work from home for the planning process.

Supervision: by the ABH Training Committee and Coordinator of Volunteers

  • Opportunities to participate in free Hennepin County trainings throughout the year.

Description

The work of our Department tends to fall into three major areas:

  1. Increasing safety and stability of individuals and families through services such as child and adult protection, providing temporary emergency shelter, and more.
  2. Promoting self-reliance and a livable income through a mixture of federal and state programs, such as SNAP (food support), Child Support, Veterans' Service, cash assistance programs and more.
  3. Improving the health of the community through public health care programs, restaurant inspections, regulating emergency medical services, providing crisis response to behavioral health emergencies, immunization services, a public health clinic, and more.
