THE IRISH INTERNATIONAL IMMIGRANT CENTER - VOLUNTEER WRITER NEEDED - SPRING 2018

Volunteering and Interning at the IIIC

Join our team at the IIIC! Our interns, volunteers and staff bring enthusiasm, and a commitment to our mission and to the work they do at the Center. The Volunteer Writer is an important member of the communications/marketing team, helping us to share our story, and our vision of a society where all people are welcomed.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Irish International Immigrant Center provides legal, education and wellness programs for immigrant and refugee families from 120 nations around the globe; and builds inter-cultural bridges through events and collaborative programs. We are seeking an experienced, talented volunteer writer to help us tell our story.

The volunteer writer will work closely with our Manager of Foundations and Communications, our Communications Intern and Deputy Director to assist the organization with telling its story online, through Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIN, though our monthly enewsletter and on the IIIC’s website, as well as in print, through editorial drafts, print publication submission, development of marketing materials and other communications efforts that support fundraising, promote our work, and direct clients to our services.

Time Commitment: Time commitment is flexible. We are seeking at least 16 hours per month but can expand the role for a writer seeking an internship or to more fully engage with the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Write creative and engaging articles and stories for our monthly on-line newsletter, Year End Report and print publications. Craft stories about our constituents - legal services clients, students and Irish graduates in our J1 Intern Placement Program; staff; volunteers and other stakeholders.
  • Edit content written by staff, ensuring writing is engaging, interesting and tells our story.
  • Assist with the writing and preparation of press releases, flyers and other marketing materials
  • Draft other written material as required

Requirements:

  • Experience writing creative, engaging stories, articles, press releases, etc.
  • Experience or familiarity with marketing and communications, branding, and a basic understanding of promoting mission and vision through story-telling.
  • Excellent verbal communication
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiarity with Get Response, MailChimp or other email marketing platform preferred
  • Organization, attention to detail and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a flexible, dynamic environment
  • Ability to work respectfully in a multicultural environment
  • Commitment to the overall mission of the IIIC
