Overview

LMCC presents the 17th annual River To River Festival, Downtown New York City’s completely free summer arts festival, June 15-24.

River To River presents an array of performances and events exploring and celebrating diversity in all its forms-often blurring the lines between genres including dance, music, theater and the visual arts-over 10 days at over 40 unique sites, institutions, and venues across Lower Manhattan.

This year’s festival includes:

  • MasterVoicesNaamah’s Ark in Rockefeller Park, a dramatic oratorio about the world after the Great Flood, as told from the perspective of Naamah, wife of Noah. Composed by Marisa Michelson with libretto by Royce Vavrek, performed by MasterVoices-led by Artistic Director Ted Sperling-with guest community choruses and featuring Victoria Clark in the role of Naamah
  • Jace Clayton’sGbadu & the Moirai Index, a composition for Four Voices and the Stock Market, in which the singers’ vocals are processed and transformed by real-time financial data, performed across from the New York Stock Exchange on the steps of Federal Hall
  • GRANDMA, a multimedia, choreographic portrait of aging and ghosts of the American South by Cori Olinghouse
  • Of Granite and Glass, Catherine Galasso’s site-specific interpretation of Boccaccio’s 14th-century narrative Decameronat the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place, co-commissioned by LMCC and Arts Brookfield
  • enrico d. wey’ssilent :: partner at Federal Hall, a bodily exploration of memory and memorialization and a contemporary rumination on what remains and what falls
  • LES Citizens Parade, a collaboration between choreographer Naomi Goldberg Haasand visual artist Laura Novawith senior residents of NYC’s Lower East Side celebrating movement, improvisational community collaboration and the merging of performance into everyday life
  • An evening of live Salsamusic and dancing along the East River waterfront, co-presented with Good Old Lower East Side (GOLES)
  • And MUCH MORE!

River To River Volunteers are given the opportunity to engage with the Festival’s artists, audiences, and partners. Volunteers play an essential role in the Front of House Team by acting as ambassadors for the organization and by providing a variety of support for audience members.

Responsibilities

  • Greet audiences at events and distribute promotional materials.
  • Support Front of House Coordinators with audience check-in and onsite wait lists.
  • Provide way-finding assistance on-site and to audience members seeking events across the district.
  • Help audiences expand their understanding of the Festival’s artists and artistic content.
  • Collect information from audience members on-site through surveys and sign-ups, which impact programmatic and audience outreach strategies and decision-making.
  • Support Front of House Coordinators in logistical needs such as set up, pack down, and transport.

Expectations

Volunteer shifts are typically four hours long. Volunteers will be assigned to events based on availability provided at the time of applying. Volunteers who fulfill at least 3 volunteer shifts will receive a FREE RIVER TO RIVER TOTE BAG. Please note these times may vary slightly from day to day:

  • Early Afternoon Shift: 12pm-4pm
  • Afternoon Shift: 2-6pm
  • Evening Shift: 6-10pm

Additionally, all volunteers will attend a volunteer orientation to meet fellow volunteers, learn more about the Festival and the specific projects they will be supporting, and have the opportunity to ask questions. Orientations will be held at LMCC's Office, 125 Maiden Lane, 2nd Floor on Wednesday, June 6 from 6:30-7:30pm and Friday, June 8 from 2:00-3:00pm.
