At Rescuing Leftover Cuisine, we aim to feed the hungry and reduce food waste. To connect food providers to the hungry of New York City, we need all the help we can get in transporting leftover food.
Rescuers help bring food from our partners to a local homeless shelter. It takes less than an hour and you can set your own schedule, whether you want to help out daily, weekly, or sporadically.
Our events at Rescuing Leftover Cuisine typically last 30 minutes (some events are longer, some are shorter). We have a few different options for volunteering with us depending on how much time you can commit:
1. Sporadic: To sign up sporadically for events that work for your schedule, follow the below video on this page to create an account and get started!
2.Emergency Rescuer: Can't make a weekly commitment but want to be notified of opportunities near you? Join as an Emergency Rescuer, and you can let us know when generally you'd be available and we will text you to alert you of opportunities near you as they come up!
3. Lead Rescuer: A Lead Rescuer is a volunteer who leads others on food rescue events, takes attendance, and reports the number of pounds of food rescued. All of our food rescue events are led by one, and they ensure that the rescued food arrives at its destination safely. Lead Rescuers are trained and must attend an orientation session. They commit at least 1 hour a week for at least 4 months. Lead Rescuers also receive letters of participation on RLC's letterhead for proof of volunteering.
4. Core Rescuer: A volunteer who leads others on five food rescue events per week. RLC will provide you with an unlimited monthly Metrocard in exchange.
5. Rescuer Associate: A volunteer who leads others on ten food rescue events per week. RLC will pay you $8 per food rescue event.
We have food rescue events in Manhattan, Brooklyn & Queens anytime from 8am-11pm. Each day has an average of 75 events that need food rescuers!

Mission Statement
Build an efficient, open, thriving marketplace that connects people who have community and world-changing ideas with people who can support them.
Description
GlobalGiving was founded by two former World Bank executives who decided to use the Internet to create a highly efficient marketplace. The GlobalGiving platform enables more funding to reach projects throughout the globe, and, at the same time, provides a more transparent, engaging way for donors to give.
Because we enable donors to give directly to projects, they know exactly where their money is going. Donors can see progress updates on most projects as funding is received and goals are met.
Donations made through GlobalGiving are higher impact because:
- Money is going directly to a well-defined project versus supporting general operating expenses
- Projects on globalgiving.com have exposure to thousands of donors, enabling us to aggregate multiple sources of funding for each project
- Many projects on globalgiving.com are located in the developing world where a little money goes a long way
