Community Immunization Internship Description

Position: Community Immunization Intern (unpaid)

Employer: Champions for Health (CFH)

Reports to: Community Wellness Manager

Champions for Health is a nonprofit organization (Tax ID #95-2568714) dedicated to help those without or limited access to healthcare. Our internship provides an unparalleled opportunity for professional growth and development and will prepare the intern to be an ambassador in their profession. Interns will have frequent contact public health experts, physicians, civically-minded health professionals and health organizations. Interns will have the opportunity to aid our mission to provide pro bono specialty care, conduct field research and work along staff dedicated towards a healthy San Diego.

Position Overview:

The Community Immunization intern is responsible for managing and assisting with our Immunization Program that provides free immunizations to the community. This intern will be researching strategic locations with low vaccination rates and responsible for increasing collaboration with community partners. Will support in coordinating mass vaccination events, researching upcoming outbreaks, and evaluating disease prevention through vaccination efforts.

Essential Functions:

Will be in tasked to keep inventory of materials, research preventable diseases and inputting patient information in to the San Diego Immunization Registry. Will be the lead on mass vaccination events.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under supervision, the Community Immunization Intern will:

  • Coordinate mass vaccination clinics in strategic locations
  • Assess and evaluate programs, perform research on relevant topics, and revise presentation materials as appropriate
  • Assist with partner recruitment and retention
  • Present lectures to group/individuals on preventable diseases through vaccination, as appropriate
  • Participate in the San Diego Immunization Coalition and similar meetings
  • Input patient information into the San Diego Immunization Registry
  • Work with team to create and sustain marketing plan
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Near completion of undergraduate or graduate degree, preferred, in community health education, public health, health promotion or health sciences. *Do not need to be enrolled in a school to be considered*
  • Excellent writing, editing and oral communication skills.
  • Fluent in Spanish is a plus but not required
  • Time commitment: 5 or more hours a week at our office in Kearney Mesa. Flexibility to work some weekends for events.
  • Strong calling to support the underserved through health and medicine.
