Tax Prep for Low Income Taxpayers -CPE for CPA's avail.

In late January/early February 2020, Community Tax Aid (CTA) will train volunteers to prepare tax forms (federal, state and local) for low income tax payers. Volunteers will then serve in either the morning, afternoon or evening once per week at one of our pop-up volunteering sites. Our sites are in all boroughs except S.I. We provide tax preparation for free to low-income taxpayers starting in mid-Feb. and continue through Mid-April.

We are different from other free tax prep organizations in that our training (when accompanied with volunteer tax preparation) qualifies for CPE credit for CPA's - a definite benefit for the volunteer. Also, a benefit for tax payers is that we can file out of state and prior year forms, some forms not handled by VITA and other IRS free prep sites, and we also have people available year round if needed for follow-up tax info. Many of our clients have been with us for many years. Whether or not you experience filling out tax forms, we will train you until you are comfortable preparing tax returns for our clients. Our volunteers come from all walks of life. Many of our sites are handicapped accessible.

We need volunteers who are free at these times: Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings 6-9 PM or Saturdays 10-1 or 1-4PM or Sundays 1-5 PM

This volunteer opportunity is available to the following types of volunteers: adults, especially those with tax experience, lawyers, accountants and accounting students.
