Volunteer with NECAT's Student Services

May - September 2018

NECAT seeks a volunteer to assist our Director of Student Services with essential administrative duties. At any given time, NECAT has up to 50 - 60 enrolled students. The four-month training program is comprehensive and covers culinary training in the classroom and lab settings, hands-on kitchen experience, as well as extensive job readiness training and career coaching.

We are looking for a volunteer through out summer 2018 to help approximately 8 hours/week. We can be flexible about the schedule, for example, hours could make one full day or two half-days per week. The person in this role will provide student service support such as:

  • Database entry
  • Calling prospective students
  • Following up with student file document collecting
  • Helping set up career fair events
Our students face significant challenges, including chronic unemployment, lack of training, homelessness, prior incarceration and substance abuse. We graduate 65% of each program and find jobs for 80% of those graduates. You can help us get to 100% success rates!

No experience in education or workforce development is necessary. Just a passion for our mission!

Mission Statement

NECAT provides chronically unemployed adults with a pathway to stable, long-term employment in the food services industry through comprehensive technical and job readiness training and individualized support and employment services.

Description

NECAT is a catalyst for social change, helping our community's chronically unemployed bridge the skills gap, enter the workforce and achieve economic self-sufficiency.

We provide a 16-week Culinary Arts Job Training Program, which is offered free of tuition cost to 150 students annually. The program is designed to prepare graduates to meet the needs of food service employers looking for qualified cooks.
