  • 16 people are interested

We are looking for volunteers to join our already outstanding group of devout members.

Volunteer opportunities at the Audrain include working the floor during open hours-- essentially manning the door and engaging patrons to add to their overall experience.

We also host Cars & Coffee events throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall at various Newport mansions. These events take place Sunday mornings a couple times each month. We would love more volunteer help to enhance the overall event.

Whether you are looking for weekend volunteer work or weekday opportunities, we can work with whatever your schedule. The Museum is open every day from 10am to 4pm and Cars & Coffee events are on various Sundays from 8am to 10am.

We look forward to hearing from you!!

Mission Statement

"More of an Art Museum than a Car Museum," we celebrate the Machine Age, when art and automobiles came together. With access to more than 200 of the most remarkable and rare vehicles ever made, the Museum takes pride in its ability to display automobiles from 1899 to modern day. Vehicles are chosen specifically and showcased based on ever-changing exhibition themes. By displaying 15-20 cars at a time, the Museum gives patrons and enthusiasts of all ages a completely unique experience with each visit. "Preserving Newport's History One Car At A Time."

Description

The Audrain Automobile Museum’s goal has always been to acquire and preserve automobiles with historical significance to Newport. Lacking a suitable stage, the Museum’s founding fathers took it upon themselves to find a proper home for some of Newport’s most important artifacts. Defunct and outdated, the historic Audrain Building symbolized a perfect storm: a home for the museum and an opportunity to restore and preserve a key piece of Newport history.

Designed by noted architect Bruce Price in 1903, the Audrain Building represents one of the four Gilded Age buildings that form an architecturally significant block on Bellevue Avenue. Price drew inspiration from the Florentine Renaissance to create an iconic two-story edifice defined by broad arched windows and a roofline distinguished by a white terra-cotta balustrade with lion sculptures. The first floor was originally designed to feature six retail shops and the second floor accommodated 11 offices. During the 20th century, a hurricane damaged the balustrade and lion sculptures, warranting their removal. By the early 21st century, the building was in desperate need of restoration.
