Veteran Volunteer for Battle Buddy Training & Subject Matter Expert Needed
Job Descriptions & Application
Battle Buddy Volunteer
This person will receive 40 hours of training focused upon building skills in empathy, listening, responding to feelings, attitudes, and values. Using these skills in both simulated and real life situations with others will also be part of the training as well as becoming aware of a wide range of resources available that can be brought to bear to aid veterans.
Approximate volunteer hours: 8-10 monthly.
Prerequisites:
Knowledge: Familiarity with military culture through either having served in the military or being part of a military family.
Skill: English as primary language preferred, any combination of secondary language and cultural experience is welcome.
Aptitudes: A willingness to serve, the ability to listen, and, most importantly a heart for those who have served in the military.
Volunteer Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
These volunteers will be called upon as needed to apply their expertise on behalf of those who have served or the families of those who have served in our military.
Prerequisites:
Knowledge: Proficiency at an expert level in their chosen field. ALL fields of knowledge welcome. We have used for example: Doctors, nurses, housing experts, bankers, bakers, accountants, car salesmen, mechanics, carpenters, mortgage brokers, lawyers, yoga or karate instructors, radio personalities, aviators...
Skills: Be the best at what you do
Aptitudes: A heart for veterans and willingness to serve without expectation of material gain.
Approximate volunteer hours: 8-10 monthly.

Mission Statement
Primarily through confidential peer support, informed advocacy and expert referral we will help veterans overcome barriers to healthcare, access work and educational opportunities and re-integrate into civilian society.
Description
The core of our organization are our trained Battle Buddies. All with military experience, Battle Buddies serve as mentors and guides to veterans while also making referrals to needed services. Other volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds including, but not limited to, social work, yoga, medicine, accounting, banking and law. We call these volunteers Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). SMEs offer their services, within the scope of their professions, at no charge to our veterans and their families. Trained volunteer Battle Buddies, are paired with returning veterans, according to each veteran’s need and experience. The Battle Buddies’ mission is to help our returning veterans transition successfully to the civilian world.
