Hello, our agency has done a soft poll from current and past residents and they'd like to be more creative! They want to use the camera to express themselves!

We want to produce a photography training for the residents where photography will be used as a vehicle to work through issues with self-esteem, body image, confidence, bullying and more. By using the camera, we want them to express themselves creatively to be able to work on things internally and challengings they face in their community.

Our target market is a mix of LGBTIQ living in urban communities. We believe that there is beauty in all so the community has to be included in the conversation. We also believe that certain traumas prevent our young adults from excelling to the next level.

Looking for someone great and creative that can help create creative ways to learn photography which can be applied to tackle internal issues and concerns. The program/curriculum will be used to seek funding for the program which can help us get cameras and implement this in additional areas in our underserved community.

REFERENCE PROGRAM THAT WE LIKE: http://www.nycsalt.org/

A FEW THINGS
~We'll meet once a week for about 1 hour.
~ The age range is from 15-26
~ We need a program that has transformational and learning activities for Girls only, LGBT, and then Transgender.
~Some residents have used a camera before but most have only used cameras.
~They are all in love with selfies but we want to go deeper than that.
~ Most sessions will have 8-12 people.
~We want to create a program that works with them on all entry levels but is fun and engaging.
~ We want to use photographic terminology to explain things and have them think but to also engage them. e.g. Shadow, light, composition, etc We need the program wording to use that terminology to explain what it is in photography but also how to use it for everyday life.. e.g. Shadows are the absence of light, in photography, it can be used creatively to add depth and interest to a photo. In life, shadows can surface and create doubt and instability. In order to resurface from that, you have to add light! That light can be used to slowly adjust the situation and come out on top

About HBP RAIN Foundation dba Essex County RAIN Foundation

Location:

168 Park Street, East Orange, NJ 07017, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to help individuals by providing transitional housing solutions to address the emergent need of LGBT individuals experiencing crisis leading to homelessness. Through integrated solutions we offer educational & financial responsibility resources as well as wrap around services in substance abuse and mental health counseling and drug testing. We are dedicated to bringing opportunities to troubled individuals in Greater Newark and surrounding communities.

Description

People are identifying publicly as LGBT at younger ages than in the past. Many LGBT individuals face harassment, violence, stigma, rejection, and discrimination in their families, schools, employment, and social settings. LGBT youth face the ire and rejection of unaccepting family members and are often unable to access traditional shelter settings when they find themselves homeless through no fault of their own. Although Essex County has one of the highest rates of homelessness in New Jersey, there is a woeful lack of services for LGBT individuals in this community.

We work to offer:

  • Career Planning and Employment Preparation
  • Life Skills Training
  • Develop Comprehensive Evaluation Tool to determine outcomes and identify critical issues and gaps in services
