Volunteer Services (VS) with Catholic Community Services (CCS) is looking for volunteers to help mow the yards of low-income seniors and adults with disabilities in Mason, Lewis, and Thurston counties. Volunteer where and when you can. Springtime is upon us and grasses are growing! Many seniors in the community can no longer maintain their yards on their own, and even may be hit with a fine - which when on a low, fixed income can be devastating for someone. It is preferred volunteers be able to bring their own yard care supplies (mower) as many of the VS clients do not have their own working yard care tools to provide to volunteers. Truly make a difference in someone's life and mow a yard! It not only helps promote safety for folks to get around the outside of their homes, but also makes a huge difference in someone's ability to enjoy the home they live in.

About Catholic Community Services' Volunteer Services

Location:

3545 7th ave SW, STE t-004, Olympia, WA 98502, US

Mission Statement

We believe every child should grow up in a safe, loving and nurturing environment We believe the elderly should be able to live with security and dignity. We believe healthy family life should be affirmed and supported in our communities We believe in compassion, love and respect for all people, especially the poor and most vulnerable. We believe in joining with others to change systems that oppress, discriminate or otherwise cause human suffering. We believe employees and volunteers should work in an environment that fosters respect, teamwork and excellence. We believe in all of these things for all people, whatever their color, whatever language they speak or however they worship.

Description

Our program exists as a safety net for low-income elders and people with disabilities (also low-income)by providing them with services that allow them to remain living as independently as possible in their own homes (not assisted living). For example, a 89 year old woman who only collects $600/mo. in Social Security needs help with her lawn. She can't afford to pay someone, and if her lawn goes a couple of months without being mowed, now the lawn is a fire hazard.
