If you are looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity in the West San Fernando Valley, please consider becoming a volunteer tutor or teacher at one of the public libraries in the area. Opportunities to work with either a single adult or a small group of adults are available in Woodland Hills, West Hills, Canoga Park and Chatsworth. You will work with adults who want to improve their reading and writing and they may be native English speakers or foreign born. No prior experience as a teacher is required--just a willingness to help another adult achieve their goals. All volunteers will be interviewed and receive online training and all necessary teaching materials.

Mission Statement
The Los Angeles Public Library provides free and easy access to information, ideas, books and technology that enrich, educate and empower every individual in our city's diverse communities.
Description
The Los Angeles Public Library is largest public research institution west of the Mississippi.
With more than 70 branch libraries and Central Library subject departments serving millions of Angelenos on a yearly basis, our programs are supported by thousands of volunteers in a variety of capacities. Whether providing one on one literacy tutoring, cutting out craft supplies for story time activities, helping serve summer lunch at the library, or serving as a Friend of the Library, all volunteers play a role in the work of LAPL.
If you would like to volunteer, but don't see a listing that matches your interests, please contact your local branch or the Volunteer Engagement Office. Opportunities and needs vary by location and fluctuate throughout the year.
Please note that the minimum age for volunteers is 14 (with the exception of 11-13-year-olds joining Teen Councils), minimum time commitments are required for most opportunities, adult volunteers working with children will be fingerprinted, and LAPL does not accept court-mandated community service.
