RIIFF Festival Volunteers

Do you want to watch renowned films from around the globe and interview the filmmakers who made them? Do you enjoy working with people and want to be part of a team of dedicated film lovers such as yourself? If this sounds like you, then join us in August for the Rhode Island International Film Festival as a Box Office Assistant and Filmmaker Q&A Moderator!

We are New England’s Largest Film Festival, and the region's only Oscar Qualifying Festival in three categories. With films and filmmakers coming from over 45 countries annually, RIIFF serves as an important meeting ground for the international film community. Last year we had seven of our films receive nominations for Oscars, with one film going on to win the coveted award. So, this might very well be your chance to meet the next big star! Our volunteers are crucial to the success of our festival every year, and they serve as ambassadors of the festival to our visiting filmmakers and audience.

As a Box Office Assistant and Filmmaker Q&A Moderator, you will act as a venue coordinator for the festival, collecting tickets and overseeing various film screenings. As a moderator, you will also get to host Q&A’s with the filmmakers themselves at the conclusion of the screening. We look forward to you joining our team!

If you are interested in learning more about the festival or would like to volunteer, please email info@film-festival.org or drop us a line at 401 861-4445.

About Flickers: Rhode Island International Film Festival

Location:

83 Park Street, Providence, RI 02903, US

Mission Statement

Flickers offers an artistic exchange as well as opportunities for the global creative community that are not available in the established entertainment industry. It is designed to foster contact among film directors, artists, producers, distributors, backers and audiences. Filmmakers will have an opportunity to share new film product, test-market films in development, and share the film-making process with industry peers, students, and the general public. The Festival's goal is to recognize achievement and innovation in a variety of filmmaking and storytelling disciplines while providing an opportunity to secure wider distribution.

Description

The Festival has become a leading juried competition showcase for international independent filmmakers and their work. In 2011 , Flickers screened 204 cinematic works in six days to large and appreciative crowds.

The films screened came from 60 countries, and 34 states in the United States. There were 18 World Premieres and 21 US/North American Premieres. A total of 21 Narrative Features, 45 Feature Documentaries and 141 Short Films were screened. Following months of adjudication and review, Festival films were selected from over 4,537 submissions.

What sets Flickers apart is that the Festival is one of only a handful of broadly focused, independent festivals in New England accepting works of any type (dramatic, documentary, experimental, animation), on any subject matter, and in any genre. In 2002, Flickers was notified by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) that it had elected to recognize the Rhode Island International Film Festival a s a qualifying festival for the Short Films category for the Annual Academy Awards. With more than 7,000 film festivals worldwide, only 65 have this recognition.
