ORGANIZATION: Flickers: Rhode Island International Film Festival

Do you like films or film production? Do you love kids? Do you want to inspire young people and introduce them to the magical world of film? If this sounds like you, then read on! Flickers Arts Collaborative, best known for its annual Rhode Island International Film Festival, is looking for passionate cinephiles to assist us in training the next generation of filmmakers through the Kids Eye Summer camp.

Kids Eye is a 5 day summer camp held at University of Rhode Island in Kingston, RI. Campers will have the chance to learn screenwriting, storyboarding, acting, directing and production design, and will then get to put their skills to the test by making their own movie! You will mentor a group of campers alongside our staff of professional filmmakers and film educators. We look forward to you joining our team!

Experience in film is preferred but not required.

If you would like to know more about the Kids Eye program, or are interested in volunteering, please feel free to email info@film-festival.org or drop us a line at 401 861-4445

About Flickers: Rhode Island International Film Festival

Location:

83 Park Street, Providence, RI 02903, US

Mission Statement

Flickers offers an artistic exchange as well as opportunities for the global creative community that are not available in the established entertainment industry. It is designed to foster contact among film directors, artists, producers, distributors, backers and audiences. Filmmakers will have an opportunity to share new film product, test-market films in development, and share the film-making process with industry peers, students, and the general public. The Festival's goal is to recognize achievement and innovation in a variety of filmmaking and storytelling disciplines while providing an opportunity to secure wider distribution.

Description

The Festival has become a leading juried competition showcase for international independent filmmakers and their work. In 2011 , Flickers screened 204 cinematic works in six days to large and appreciative crowds.

The films screened came from 60 countries, and 34 states in the United States. There were 18 World Premieres and 21 US/North American Premieres. A total of 21 Narrative Features, 45 Feature Documentaries and 141 Short Films were screened. Following months of adjudication and review, Festival films were selected from over 4,537 submissions.

What sets Flickers apart is that the Festival is one of only a handful of broadly focused, independent festivals in New England accepting works of any type (dramatic, documentary, experimental, animation), on any subject matter, and in any genre. In 2002, Flickers was notified by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) that it had elected to recognize the Rhode Island International Film Festival a s a qualifying festival for the Short Films category for the Annual Academy Awards. With more than 7,000 film festivals worldwide, only 65 have this recognition.
