Youth Support Specialist
Purpose: Provide support and assistance to youth in connecting with community services, social and emotional adjustment, and problem solving and being an educational advocacy. Working with youth ages 10 -21.
Key Tasks:
- Community Services:
- Partner with the Case Manager in identifying and locating required services in the community,
- Assist the youth and family in navigating the required steps to obtain the services,
- Assist in obtaining referrals for parenting classes and housing assistance,
- Be an educational advocate for the youth,
- Help establish positive youth and family community connections,
- Case Management Support:
- Provide feedback to Case Manager on youth’s progress and areas identified,
- May be asked to participate in Family Team Conferences held monthly/quarterly,
- Liaise with service providers, education system, child welfare system or juvenile justice system,
- Provide Youth Self-Development in:
- Develop critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, how to make positive life choices,
- Help Mentee in building communication skills, effective interpersonal relationships, and a self-awareness,
- Staying focused on goals,
- Maintain a professional relationship with youth and family,
- Respond to youth’s concerns, questions and needs timely,
- Respect and maintain confidentiality at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED,
- Experience working with families/youth is preferred,
- Familiarity with resources serving families a plus,
- Effective listening and communication skills,
- Non-judgmental personality,
- Ability to travel locally,
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license in the state of employment and a driving record meeting AMIkids standards
