Mission Statement

To raise sickle cell awareness by providing free screening and educating the community about pain management, new medical research and treatments. We aim to help building a healthier quality of life through advocacy, educational tutoring and social services. While our focus is to keep our community informed and educated, we believe that the most effective way to do this is by expanding our outreach events and collaborations with our community partners.

Description

Our Beginning:

  • Hands of Hope - SCA was founded on May 15, 2013

  • Our name changed to Hands of Hope - Sickle Cell Awareness on August 14, 2014

  • Current name approved by the Florida Department of State Division of Corporations March 16, 2015

  • July 31, 2015 - Approved by Internal Revenue Service and granted 501 (c) (3) non profit status

  • August 28, 2015 - Hillsborough County School District approves organization for students to earn community hours

    Services Provided:

  • Free screening for Sickle Cell Disease/Trait

  • Sickle Cell support group meetings

  • Tutoring Services

  • Free notary services

  • Free usage of computers

  • Free fax services

  • Community information and referrals

  • Health education for those living with Sickle Cell Disease

  • Hospital visitation if requested

  • CPR training
