Community Based Mentoring

Big Brothers Big Sisters - Pikes Peak
El Paso County, Colorado

Have you ever thought of yourself as a mentor? The majority of the Bigs in Community Based Mentoring program didn't either, but they are changing the lives of kids in El Paso County every single day, by just being a consistent, genuine, trusted friend.

The men and women who volunteer to become Big Brothers and Big Sisters come from many different cultures, backgrounds, and diversity of jobs, but they all share a common goal - to provide a child in need with the one-to-one support, guidance, and friendship needed to reach his or her full potential.

Volunteers are matched with a child (ages 9 to 12). They commit to a minimum of one year, spending time with their Little two to four times each month. Big Brothers Big Sisters staff members support the match relationship, providing assistance, guidance and counsel.

Volunteers must be 21 years of age, have a valid driver's license and auto insurance, and must be able to pass a background check.

This is our traditional mentoring program for which Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (nationally) is best and most known for.

Right now, Big Brothers Big Sisters - Pikes Peak is in need of men to volunteer as Big Brothers. Presently, we have several young boys enrolled as Little Brothers waiting to be matched with a Big. Please consider volunteering! Also, please spread the word! Any and all help with recruiting male volunteers would be greatly appreciated!

Finally, we are hosting a volunteer orientation on Tuesday, May 15th from 5:30pm to 7:00pm at our downtown offices in the Plaza of the Rockies (Colorado Springs). An orientation will provide a comprehensive overview of volunteering as a mentor, and it is the first step in enrolling as a Big. If you would like to attend, please contact us!
